Fahnberg - special Sauvignon territory

The Fahnberg is a slope (of an inclination of up to 18%) in the north-west of the wine town Langenlois in the Kamp Valley. The gneiss-bedrock with slab-shaped weather beaten feldspath is covered by a rich brown earth soil. This formation supports the fine elderberry and gooseberry aromas of the Sauvignon Blanc grown there. The clear southern exposition allows the sunbeams to shine at an optimal angle onto the terraces. At the same time the site is perfectly sheltered by a dense pine forest from the cold winds from the north.

The 2000 Sauvignon Blanc Fahnenberg
was harvested selectively in various rounds in the middle of October and was pressed gently after a short time of maceration. To preserve its delicate scents and aromas, the juice was slowly fermented in cooled stainless steel tanks. The wine was subsequently allowed to rest in its yeast until February, whereby the development of the secondary aromas was especially fostered.
