Treasures, generations-old

A labyrinth of tubes fourteen meters under the surface form the natural cellar of the estate parts of which look back at a 700 year-old history.

Due to its depth and a ventilation system that was cleverly devised by its builders in the 14th century, the cellar maintains a constant temperature of 11° Celsius, as well as optimal humidity and air circulation the whole year round. Therefore the casks and barrels are always in touch with moving, but not dry air.

In the midst of this network of tubes and vaults, hidden between big wooden barrels and barriques, you will find our so-called "vinothek" – a library full of fascinating wines from old vintages. It holds true treasures – e.g. a sparkling wine made from Riesling from the 1936 vintage –, that were handed down through generations along with a rich knowledge regarding the complex varietal and site-specific diversity of the vineyard sites around Langenlois.
