The Eiswein presents itself in golden-yellow colouring, delicately exotic in the nose, honey-flavour with elegant sweetness on the palate and an acidity texture rich in finesse. Enormously long ageing potential due to its structure!

alcohol by vol: 10,5% Vol., acidity: 8,8‰, residual sugar: 203 g/l

Ried Spiegel

This southerly-exposed site with a generous layer of humus is underlaid with loess and very nutrient-rich. The profound soils let the roots growing long and deep, thereby allowing the vines to survive long dry periods without damage. They can obtain their nutrients and minerals from different soil layers. Our most concentrated and complex Grüner Veltliner thrives there because of the type of soil. As the grapes absorb the components and expression of the terroir, they yield wines of the highest aromatic concentration.

The wine-making

The deeply frozen grapes were picked at minus 12°C on December 10, 2002 at sunrise. Carefully they were taken to the press house in small crates, where they were crushed immediately without allowing them to defrost. The golden juice with about 36° KMW was then slowly fermented in stainless steel tanks, whereby fermentation takes weeks due to the high sugar content in the must. Subsequently the young wine matured for over a year in barrique for more than a year at a constant temperature of 11° C in our 700 year-old natural cellar.

Ageing potential: 2050

Food accompany: A perfect match for all pâtés and desserts.
