Kamptal DAC 2009

Displaying a youthful, delicate straw color, this wine oozes fruit aromas of apples, bananas and tropical fruit, which are accompanied by spice and a pepperiness typical of Grüner Veltliner. The very barren crystalline primary rock soil on the terraces of the Loiserberg offer best conditions for making ideal-typical Veltliners of distinctive charakter and deep fruitiness.

Ried Loiserberg

Facing south to southeast, this terrace site boasts a crystalline rock soil (Gföhl Gneiss) with a very thin layer of humus that provides the vines with a poor substratum; this forces the roots to infiltrate deeply into the craggy subsoil in order to get the nutrients they need. The ingestion of nutrients leads to wines with a very distinctive and multilayered character and a deep fruitiness.
Loiserberg is the westernmost elevation in the direction of the Waldviertel, therefore it has a very special microclimate: While its sun-exposed terraces are pounded with extreme heat, the vines are also flooded with cold air from the harsher Waldviertel. This mixture of cold and hot air contributes strongly to the development of exotic aromas.

The wine-making

The fully ripe grapes were selectively hand-picked at the beginning of October. The slow and cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks at approximately 19° Celsius and the following rest period on the fine lees supplied the Grüner Veltliner Loiserberg with fine creaminess and full body. The wine was bottled in February of the year after harvest.
