Sauvignon Blanc 2009

The wine
Pale, delicate greenish yellow; youthful scent with an multi-layered interplay of fruit aromas; the palate is coated with varietal stone-fruit flavors that are complemented by elderberry-gooseberry-aromas and additionally enhanced by the stimulating fruit acid - a juvenile and casual charmer with spicy fruit glaze.

alcohol by vol: 12,5%, acidity: 6,8‰, residual sugar: 3,0 g/l

Ried Fahnberg
The gneiss-bedrock (Gföhl Gneiss) of this vineyard is covered with brown earth soil. The roots have to struggle and fight their way, millimeter by millimeter, through the cracks and gaps of the fragile gneiss. That lends to the development of the fine elderberry and gooseberry aromas in our Sauvignon Blanc.
The clear southern exposition of the steep hillside allows the sun to shine at an optimal angle onto the terraces. The vines are less prone to diseases due to the dry, open site, and are perfectly sheltered by a dense pine forest from the cold winds from the north.

The wine-making
The fully ripe grapes were selectively harvested by hand into stackable crates in several passages during the first week of October. Then the whole clusters were pressed at very low pressure. The juice was slowly fermented in cooled stainless steel tanks in which the young wines subsequently rest. Sauvignon Blanc is always bottled at the beginning of January after the harvest so as to preserve its freshness and fruit.

Ageing potential: until 2014

food accompany:
An ideal aperitif as well as a perfect match for seafood, fish, poultry and Asian food.
