Ried Ladner
A wide range of soil types prevail in this area: partly sand, partly clayey, cohesive loam as well as slate pockets (Gföhl Gneiss) that almost reach the surface. This cohesive soil allows for optimal water storage and guarantees a sufficient water supply during the vegetation period.
The hollow-like area, which protects from storm and wind, yields a special microclimate that warms the vineyards. The high potassium-content in the soil leads to concentrated wines with fine spiciness, such as especially terroir-driven Chardonnays.
The wine-making
The fully ripe grapes were selectively harvested by hand into stackable crates in several passages during the first week of October. The crates were then immediately transported to the press house on fully suspended trailers where the whole clusters were carefully pressed. The juice was cool fermented in stainless steel tanks at approxomately 18° Celsius so as to best preserve the aromas and flavors of the grape. After resting on the fine lees for several weeks the wine is bottled at the middle of March of the year following the harvest.
